In situ and satellite observation data are key to measure and monitor the ocean.

They are also essential inputs in ocean modelling at different level (see more detail), for example to produce the 3D global ocean analysis and forecast system at 1/12 degree, one of the most widely used Copernicus Marine Service product.

Scientists need to assess the impact of current and future observation systems on analysis and forecasting systems is needed to measure the benefits, identify gaps, calibrate models and prepare future missions (view Impact).
